We are still 15 months out from our next Presidential election, and a goodly chunk of the news is now devoted to who is going to end up being the person opposing President Obama in his re-election. Does it really matter who our President is or what his or her personal politics are?

One of our still wet-behind-the ears tea-party Republicans was making a comment on a news show playing on our TV screen last night when I caught the term "nanny state" being uttered. I've long been impatient with the growing number of unnecessary rules and regulations that seem to be spewed out by the thousands at every level of government.
I suppose it has been a true sign of my advancing age that I find myself ranting about our coddled youth, who need everything done for them by a beneficent government.

I was listening to Colorado Public Radio on the way to work and the commentator made a statement that kind of perked up my ears.

The latest thing to hit the newspapers and television now that election are over, are the new TSA procedures that will require air travelers to decide whether or not to submit to what might be potentially dangerous electronic scanning, or to undergo intrusive body searches from strangers.

This past weekend, Ken Buck of Colorado managed to put his foot firmly in his mouth. While on a weekend television talking heads show, he managed to imply that he thought that homosexuality was the same as alcoholism. Despite the fact that every major psychological organization in the world has stated that homosexuality is a normal human state, Buck decided that pandering to the religious right was where he needed to go in his campaign.
